AIDA-CFD celebrates 2nd annual convention

Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCSPCR) chairman Alun Hangsing called upon all to create a safe and conducive environment for the children. He said this while addressing the 2nd annual convention ANMA Integrated Development Organisation (AIDA)-Child Friendly Dimapur (CFD) under the theme, “empowering young voices” held at AIDA, Dimapur on December 13. According to a statement issued by CFD AIDA, Hangsing highlighted that the commission has adapted Right to Education Act, Protection of Children from Sexual Offence and Juvenile Justice Act. He also said that two others Acts relating to Rules and Regulations were yet to be passed, reiterating that the state government was taking keen interest that all the provisions create safe and conducive environment for all children. He also shared on the child protection mechanism which are prevalent in the society, i.e. District Child Protection Unit, Child Welfare Committee, Juvenile Justice Board etc., which are vigilant and pertinent to child rights. He said that NCSPCR was statutory as it facilitates and examine state policy on Child Rights in the state. Stating that everybody is a stakeholder in the society, Hangsing said each person has a role to play in order to create a safe environment for children. He encouraged all the stakeholders to be more vigilant to prevent any harm against children, especially to prevent them to fall prey of child trafficking and child pornography. He has also encouraged civil society organizations and institutions to collaboratively work towards protecting the rights of the children. Earlier, executive director of AIDA, Rev. Fr. Roy George delivered the word of welcome. He also shared on the integral development initiative of AIDA in four different north eastern states. Project coordinator, CFD, Garrol Lotha shared on the journey of CFD while a mime was enacted by Signal Angami, Child Rights Club members on the theme, “Anti Bullying”. Some of the other highlights of the programme were special performance by the child rights facilitators, dance performances, poem recitation, and speech. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mechietonü Agnes. Around 300 child rights club members, child rights facilitators, different departments, civil society organizations, youth and community leaders from different localities attended the annual convention.
