ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA) Don Bosco, Dimapur, the implementing partner of SBI Foundation Mumbai under the “SBI Gram Saksham” program, celebrated International Youth Day at the Students’ Library in Bade village, Chumoukedima.
The event focused on the theme, “The Positive and Adverse Aspects of Mobile Phones and Social Media in the Lives of Youth,” recognizing the profound impact of technology as the world becomes increasingly interconnected.
As the resource person, Mr. Sebi Chacko, Placement Coordinator for AIDA Don Bosco Job Placement Network, engaged the youth in a thoughtful discussion on the dual impact of mobile phones and social media. He highlighted how these tools have revolutionized communication, offering young people unparalleled access to information, education, and global networks. However, he also addressed the significant challenges that accompany widespread usage, including mental health concerns, comparison and envy, privacy risks, misinformation, addiction, and distractions.
Mr. Chacko also shared real-world examples where social media has played a positive role, such as in emergency responses during natural calamities, raising funds, spreading awareness, and providing critical communication channels for youth to reach parents and guardians in times of danger. On the flip side, he cautioned about the dangers of false news, online scams, and the importance of being vigilant when using social media platforms.
Additionally, he introduced AIDA’s job placement network services and activities to the participating youth and offered valuable insights into current job opportunities, tailoring his advice to align with the skills and interests of the youth in attendance. To further empower them, he conducted a brief career guidance session, where he shared practical tips on how to effectively prepare for and navigate the job application process, including strategies for excelling in future job interviews. This guidance aimed to equip the youth with the confidence and knowledge needed to pursue their career aspirations successfully. The event saw the participation of 28 youth from Bade and Urra villages, alongside their office bearers.
