Inauguaration of Migrant Desk

On Monday, June 5, 2017, in the presence of AIDA Team, Don Bosco Tech faculty and trainees, Fr. Nestor Guria the Provincial of Dimapur Province inaugurated the “JOURNEYING ALONG”, the Migrant Help Desk of the province. Fr. C. T. Varghese, Rector, Don BoscoDimapur and member of province YAR commission also was present.
Speaking on the occasion Fr. Provincial recalled the works done by Don Bosco during his lifetime for the youth who landed in the cities in Italy in search of work in the event of industrial revolution. “Don Bosco understood the need to accompany those young people and without hesitation he did that.” “Migrants Help Desk will ensure protection to Migrants’ rights as the constitution of India (Article 19) gives right to all citizen “to move freely throughout the territory of India; to resides and settle in any part of the territory of India”, said Fr. Provincial.He further requested the JOURNEYING ALONG DESK” to reach out to those migrants who leaving their homes land in cities like Dimapur.
Fr. C. T. Varghese in his message reminded the participants that “Don Bosco is a name that is associated largelywith educational institutions. But Don Bosco during his life time also started technical institutions for the young people to skill them and he accompanied them to places of work.”Today too Don Bosco institutions do accompany the young people and migrant help desk is one such example.
The function began with Bro. Sunny speaking on the purpose of migrant desk in the province. “It is part of a pan India initiative taken by Don Bosco India to reach out to the young people who are far away from their home state for study or employment. The migrant desk ensures that these young people are safe, secure and they are reassured that they have a support to lean on at the places they migrate to”, he said.
Earlier Project Coordinator of Migrant Help Desk Miss Gabriel Zhimomiwelcomed the gathering and Don Bosco Tech trainees presented a prayer song.
